eLearning Development, Software Training, Instructional Design, Simulation
The challenge: To launch two comprehensive learning paths on the Google Skill Shop platform, creating 16 public-facing courses for up to 4 million product users. The goal was to provide in-depth training on Shopping Ads to help customers understand how to use them, improve their results, and get more value from the platform.
Additional constraints:
The curriculum manager was new to the department and course development process.
The other instructional designer was unavailable, requiring completion of all courses solo.
The design: The project involved creating two distinct curricula: one for strategists and another for practitioners. Each module was a single page, consisting of text, interactions, custom graphics, and knowledge checks. Some modules also had curated product videos and software simulations.
My contribution:
Consultation and Planning: Consulted with curriculum managers and product experts to understand key features and upcoming releases. Helped plan and facilitate focus groups with product users to ensure content relevance.
Curriculum Development: Outlined curricula, wrote content, and developed prototypes.
Collaboration and Coordination: Coordinated with copy editors and graphic designers, providing detailed content for review and graphic descriptions for development.
Simulation Design and Storyboarding: Scripted and storyboarded custom software simulations.
Project Leadership: Led the instructional design, content development, eLearning development, assessment design, and review cycles. Performed detailed QA to guarantee functionality before publishing.
Feedback: Stakeholders highlighted the painless process and high-quality final products.
Samples: Selection of screens from the final courses available in Google's publicly available Skillshop platform.
